Spanish PM Continues Journey After Emergency Landing in Ankara

(MENAFN) Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez continued his journey to Armenia after his aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Ankara due to a technical malfunction while en route from Madrid, according to reports.

The plane departed from the Turkish capital on Monday after the issue was resolved. Sánchez had stayed overnight in Ankara as a precaution, following standard security procedures.

Spain’s official news agency EFE, citing government sources, reported that the Airbus A310 used for official travel developed a technical fault during the flight to Yerevan, where the prime minister is expected to attend the European Political Community meeting beginning Monday.

Following the diversion, Turkish authorities accommodated the aircraft in Ankara, and the Spanish premier remained in a hotel before continuing his trip once conditions were cleared.

This incident adds to a series of travel disruptions involving Sánchez. In September of last year, he was unable to attend a Ukraine-related meeting in Paris after a technical problem forced his Falcon aircraft to return to Madrid mid-flight, though he later participated in the discussions virtually.
